The main challenge in this project was translating a historically and politically charged subject into a visual language that remains critical and reflective, without aestheticizing or glorifying the ideology itself.

Another key challenge was transforming a historical topic into an engaging and compelling reading experience through design, using editorial tools such as typography, layout, imagery, and pacing to communicate mechanisms of propaganda, control, and manipulation while sustaining the reader’s attention and encouraging reflection.

My thinking process focused on how design itself could become part of the narrative, using visual language to reflect the mechanisms of control and persuasion explored in the book.
A central part of the process was finding a way to make the subject visually engaging and compelling, while avoiding provocation for the sake of provocation. Every decision around typography, composition, and pacing was guided by the intention to create a thoughtful reading experience that encourages reflection rather than sensationalism.

The solution was built around a restrained yet powerful visual system. I chose a limited but striking color palette to create a strong sense of presence and consistency
throughout the book.

The chapter openers were designed to feel bold and impactful, while the inner pages remain more minimal and controlled, allowing the content to breathe. Strong historical imagery is paired with restrained typography to maintain clarity and respect for the subject matter, while highlighted quotations create moments of emphasis and reflection throughout the reading experience.

The cover was designed to feel quiet yet powerful, using a black cloth binding with embossed detailing to convey weight and permanence. Clear yet delicate page numbering and navigation elements support readability without disrupting the visual tone.
